Hello/Bonjour
We are a family of six; myself and my wife, two children (aged 4 and 2) with two grandparents. We all had a wonderful time at Didier & André's Gîte à la Campagne near Cheverny.
First of all Didier & André are good people, welcoming and helpful (and their English is a lot better than my French). Didier was always considerate and prompt with any questions we had and André popped in to give us some delicious home grown tomatoes and herbs.
Their gite is great. The open plan kitchen and living room area are ideal, and the main bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. Our two children also had their own room, which is a big bonus in terms of everyone getting a good night’s sleep. The garden is perfect, plenty of room to run around or relax in the sun (depending on your age), and there is a pond where we all spent time simply watching the fish. There is an outdoor hotplate, which is easy to use, and we enjoyed several evenings eating outside on the patio area.
Contres, the local town, has everything you need including a boulangerie (baker), where we went most mornings for delicious croissants and bread, a boucherie (butcher) for fantastic handmade burgers and sausages, and large Supermarkets for everything else. There is also a lovely little park with a play area for the young ones.
Within an hour’s drive of the gite there is so much to do that we ended up doing something every day (if you are interested see full schedule below). Particular highlights for the children were Montrichard where there is a beach on the river, an old-fashioned style carousel and play area, and the Family Park in St Martin-le-Beau. For the adults it was also Montrichard and the various Chateaus (especially Chaumont), and we all enjoyed the gardens that surround each Chateau, which often meant the children could run around whilst the adults took turns taking a look inside.
So all in all a fantastic holiday

One thing to note if you are British is you will need additional Personal Liability insurance as French home insurance is different to ours. Superbes vacances
Nous avons passé avec toute ma famille (4 générations étaient présentes) des vacances très agréables dans cette belle propriété dont nous avons apprécié la maison de caractère, chaleureuse et décorée avec goût et aussi le magnifique jardin avec ses grands arbres, sa mare aux canards, ses massifs de fleurs et sa grande pelouse invitant aux jeux et à la détente.
Mon épouse (en fauteuil roulant) a particulièrement apprécié de pouvoir déjeuner tous les jours sur la grande terrasse extérieure ombragée avec toute la famille.
Mention très bien aussi aux sympathiques propriétaires, très accueillants, attentifs à nos désirs et toujours discrets.
Au total, avec le Soleil en prime, ce fut un séjour très réussi.
Nous avons déjà envie de le renouveler.
